Nestled along the tranquil coastline of Point Road in Sans Souci, NSW, this project draws deeply from the natural beauty of its surroundings. Inspired by the “Ocean Breeze” aesthetic, the design seeks to harmonize the rhythm of ocean waves, soft light, and the serene hush of the bay into a spatial experience that feels both grounded in nature and elevated in spirit. The result is a private sanctuary that not only serves as a refined residence but also as a retreat, one that thoughtfully balances coastal calm with understated urban sophistication.

A primary design challenge stemmed from the original structure, which lacked character and refinement. The brief called for a transformation that would reposition the building as an upmarket offering in line with the area’s evolving identity. With the community now boasting upgraded amenities and an elevated lifestyle appeal, the design needed to reflect this change. The response was a problem-solution approach where every intervention had a clear purpose: to enrich and elevate the existing architecture without losing sight of its coastal context.

Design solutions were grounded in subtle sophistication and sensory richness. Fully customized kitchens in neutral tones echo the beachside palette while offering bespoke functionality. Upgraded entryways and lobbies, with brushed brass, coffered ceilings, and options of cool marble or warm carpet, create an immediate sense of luxury and hospitality. Light-filled corridors, mirrored surfaces, and ribbed joinery were introduced to invite natural light and add textural interest, all while drawing visual continuity from the surrounding environment. The penthouse, envisioned as a haven above the sea, features sculpted forms, soft ivory wallpapers, and Calacatta marble finishes, echoing the cliffs and clouds beyond.

Throughout the residence, each space is crafted for both connection and contemplation. The master suite layers tactile materials, mirrored cabinetry, and ambient lighting to evoke serenity and timelessness. Dual living areas offer flexibility, designed for either social gatherings or intimate retreats, always maintaining a clear view to the bay. In every corner, the design whispers calm, sophistication, and soulfulness, paying homage to the natural stillness of Sans Souci while fulfilling the demands of modern luxury living.
