Located on the water’s edge in Gymea Bay, this residential renovation was designed to enhance liveability and create a calming environment tailored to the client’s lifestyle. The existing home presented several challenges common to older properties, including segmented spaces, minimal natural light, and dated finishes. The goal was to reconfigure the interior layout to improve flow and functionality, while introducing a light, tonal palette that better reflected the home’s natural surroundings.
A key aspect of the transformation involved opening up the kitchen and dining areas into a unified, open-plan zone that maximizes both natural light and views to the water. A custom dining table by Lowe Furniture anchors the dining space, offering both function and craftsmanship. Suspended above, decorative lighting by Bocci adds softness and sculptural interest, complementing the organic textures and neutral tones used throughout the home.
Material selections were guided by a desire for visual calm and cohesion. Pale timber cabinetry and softly veined natural stone were introduced in the kitchen to create a light and refined backdrop, while rounded edges and integrated appliances helped maintain a clean, uncluttered look. Lighting was carefully integrated to enhance ambient warmth and highlight architectural features without overwhelming the space.
In the living area, soft furnishings, curved forms, and layered textiles contribute to a relaxed, inviting atmosphere. The use of sheer curtains filters natural light and preserves the connection to the outdoors, reinforcing the home’s overall sense of tranquillity. The result is a cohesive and highly functional interior that feels both contemporary and timeless, tailored to suit the client’s need for a serene, waterside retreat.
