FUNKY HOTEL CONCEPT/
This design was the product of meticulous market research of the surrounding area, the lifestyle it offers, and the archaeological significance of the site. Our focus was to create a vibrant tourist destination to satisfy the needs of its target market: the millennial.
This environmentally aware generation is high-tech, perceptive and always in search of an entertaining experience. Therefore, we focused on creating an experiential design that will appeal to them.
We thought carefully about the wow factor that we wanted to create and how the design would expose that story. It was important the design would tell them something they hadn’t heard.
The design backstory invoked the infamous mob bosses, Tilly Devine and Kate Leigh, with a mix of rough and soft textured materials. We also incorporated the exterior architecture into the interiors through a unique brick design feature to create a minimalistic, modern look.
Some elements include space-saving features and wireless technology in the hotel rooms — essential for a generation where social media is an integral part of their daily lives.
We infused casual yet stylish amenities for everyday use and showcased modern Australian ceramics that feature a vibrant, earthy colour scheme as a nod to local artisans.
Out of the Box is a 800sqm, two-storey retail establishment located in Nanjing, China. The brief included interior design, merchandise selection, procurement, store merchandising, delivery and installation — and was a two-year endeavour that is Lorena’s proudest labour of love to date. In addition to creative fulfilment, working on this project inspired her to create her own collection of homewares.
