Bosco Verticale is a residential building in Milan, Italy, that features a vertical forest of trees planted on the balconies.
The building has been nicknamed the “vertical forest” because of its extensive planting. There are more than 800 trees and plants from over 150 species on the balconies. The plants were chosen for their ability to withstand wind and sun exposure.

The building’s design was inspired by biophilic architecture, which is based on the principle that humans have a deep need for contact with nature. Biophilic architecture is an approach to design that seeks to connect people with nature. The goal is to create spaces that are both functional and comfortable for people, while also being good for the environment. This type of architecture can take many different forms, but all share the common goal of bringing people and nature together.
The building’s facade is made up of modular panels that can be opened to allow air and light into the apartments. The plants on the balconies help to regulate the temperature inside the building and provide natural insulation.
The building was designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti and is part of a larger project that includes the rehabilitation of an abandoned industrial area on the outskirts of Milan. The goal of the project is to create a new model for urban regeneration that combines nature and architecture “a sustainable city model of the future.” Do you love it?
